Shield Your Teeth With Sealants
Many back teeth have deep grooves that are not fully covered by enamel, leaving the underlying layer of the tooth exposed. These areas are prone to bacteria buildup, which can lead to decay, as the crevices are difficult to clean effectively. To help prevent cavities in these vulnerable spots, we offer a simple, painless solution: dental sealants.
After thoroughly cleaning the tooth, we apply a small, tooth-colored filling material to seal these deep grooves. This protective layer helps prevent decay and can save you from needing larger fillings in the future. Sealants are a quick and effective way to keep your teeth healthy and cavity-free.
What to Expect During a Dental Sealant Procedure?
The procedure is incredibly simple and quick. When you visit our Ascension Smiles Family Dentistry dental office, we begin by cleaning your teeth thoroughly. Afterward, we apply a special gel to the surface of your teeth and allow it to dry. Once the gel has dried, we rinse and dry your tooth again before applying the dental sealant. The sealant is carefully painted onto the tooth, and in some cases, it may be set with a special dental light. The entire process takes only a few minutes per tooth, and many of our patients are surprised at how fast and easy it is.
Why Are Dental Sealants Used?
Food can easily get trapped in the deep grooves of the chewing surfaces of your teeth, and these areas are often hard to clean properly. At Ascension Smiles Family Dentistry, we use dental sealants to seal these grooves, preventing food and plaque from building up. By closing off these hard-to-reach areas, we significantly reduce the risk of cavities and keep your teeth healthier for longer.
